About the market: Every Sunday, the upper playground at La Jolla Elementary is transformed into a colorful, friendly and wholesome Farmer’s Market. Come experience the community feel, live music, creative artisans, diverse food court, and local farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
Consistently ranked as one of the largest and best farmers markets in San Diego, our Sunday Market in La Jolla has grown to become one of the premier weekly events for locals and tourists alike. Families and their kids can enjoy the live music, playgrounds, and grass fields to run and play on.

Stone Of The Month – Pearl

Image from Cami Manhattan Beach

Coco Chanel was never seen without a long string of pearls. Pearls symbolize what is best within us- you can walk with dignity if you wear this delicate piece! Pearls can stimulate your femininity, lift your spirits and can make you feel calm and beautiful. Who doesn’t want to feel this way?!

Different colors carry different meanings:

  • White- symbol of pure heart and mind; innocence, faith
  • Gold & Black- prosperity
  • Pink- works especially with heart chakra.

The pearl is the oldest known gemstone. Freshwater pearls come from lakes, rivers, ponds and other fresh bodies of water where the weather is hotter or colder (ie. Scotland or China). Saltwater pearls are sometimes cultivated in protected lagoons or volcanic atolls.

For centuries, the pearl was known as the most valuable gemstone. Early cultures believed the pearl was born when a single drop of rain fell from the heavens to become the heart of the oyster. Astrologists sometimes link the gemstone to the moon.

Quick Facts:

  • Elements- water
  • Signs- Cancer & Gemini
  • Healing properties- solar plexus chakra (digestion, stomach, immunity and emotional stress.)
  • Words- purity, honesty, innocence, integrity, concentration, focus, meditation, serenity, tranquility, wisdom.

As stated in a previous blog post, the pearl has humble beginnings! A ragged, rough grain of sand transforms over time, slowly growing into a object or great value and beauty.

How One Women Changed This Man

This is an exceptional read for all ages. We thought it would be good to share!

“And that’s long enough.”

These four words changed my life forever.  Dorrie Prouty struggled to get them out as she lay in her bed the day before her 88th birthday.  I asked Dorrie, “Do you know how old you will be tomorrow?”  She responded, “I am not sure, you will have to figure it out on your computer.  I know I am over 80.”  Before I asked Dorrie the question I knew the answer.  Dorrie was born on February 7th, 1925.  I explained to Dorrie, “You were born in 1925 and it is now 2013, so you have lived 88 years.”  She looked me dead square in the eyes and said, “and that’s long enough.”  That exact moment, 11:25 am on February 6th, 2013 will be etched in my memory forever.
